I. Introduction – Paragraph 1
a. Main idea of the paper – 1-2 sentences
b. Provide a general overview of each your 3-4 topics – 2-4 sentences
i. Do not list the ideas, but connect the different concepts
ii. Each of the ideas in paragraphs 2-4(or 5) must be introduced
c. Thesis/Argument – combine the main topics and develop in 1-2 sentences a strong worded sentence(s) that explains the paper’s central argument (Example: Through the development of scientific thought and the persistence of Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, and Newton the previous perception of the universe as geocentric transformed to a greater understanding of a heliocentric universe.)
II. Body
a. Topic #1 – Paragraph 2
i. Topic sentence that tells the focus of the paragraph - first sentence introduces paragraphs central topic around which everything in the paragraph revolves around
ii. Explain topic and provide examples and use evidence (use a quote if necessary)
iii. Tying together the major ideas of the paragraph, wrap it up by emphasizing the large concept these ideas represent (do not introduce anything new in the last sentence of a paragraph – do not use the last sentence of the paragraph as a transition)
b.Topic #2 – Paragraph 3
i.Transition/Topic sentence – this sentence should start the next paragraph and provide a smooth transition while stating the main topic of the next paragraph – Example (if the previous paragraph is about the understanding of the universe prior to the Scientific Revolution): Copernicus initially challenged the widely accepted ideas of Aristotle, Ptolemy, and the Church in the mid-1500s when he theorized that the universe was heliocentric.
ii. Explain topic and provide examples and use evidence (use a quote if necessary)
iii. Tying together the major ideas of the paragraph, wrap it up by emphasizing the large concept these ideas represent (do not introduce anything new in the last sentence of a paragraph – do not use the last sentence of the paragraph as a transition)

a.Briefly connect all the sub-topics and explain how they all support your thesis
b.Examine the greater significance of the paper topic – do not simply repeat the same stuff from the introduction
